What to Put on Your Charcuterie Board

Cheeses
Add your favorite cheeses. Mix it up with a few different textures and flavors:

  • Hard cheeses like cheddar, gouda, or Parmesan
  • Soft cheeses like brie, boursin, or goat cheese
  • Try a flavored cheese like smoked gouda or a spicy pepper jack if you’re feeling adventurous.

Meats
A variety of cured or deli meats adds plenty of savory options:

  • Thin slices of prosciutto, salami, or capicola
  • Add something unique like pate or spreadable meats for a little variety
  • Roll or fold the slices into fun shapes to make the board look nice.

Fruits
Fresh and dried fruits add a little sweetness and balance everything out:

  • Fresh: Grapes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, oranges or sliced apples or pears (brush them with lemon juice to keep them fresh).
  • Dried: Apricots, cherries, cranberries, or figs

Veggies
A few fresh vegetables keep things crisp and add a nice crunch:

  • Stick carrots, cucumber slices, celery, or cherry tomatoes
  • Pickled options like olives or baby dill pickles are always a hit, too.

Crackers and Bread
You’ll need something sturdy to pair with your cheese and dips:

  • Crackers, baguette slices, or even pretzels work well
  • Add a gluten-free option if needed

Dips and Condiments
A couple of spreads or dips will round everything out:

  • Hummus, honey, or fruit preserves
  • Mustard or a garlic herb dip

Snack Items
Snacks like nuts like almonds, pistachios, pecans, cashews or fancy chocolates like dark chocolate.

How to Store Leftovers

If you have leftovers, pack them in airtight containers or plastic bags and refrigerate them within 2 hours. They’ll keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days. Make sure to store like items together (e.g., all meats in one container, all cheeses in another).

According to FDA guidelines, meats and cheeses left out for more than 2 hours should be discarded. If you’re serving outdoors on a hot day (over 90°F), discard anything left out for more than an hour to stay safe.

Simple Tips for Putting It Together

  • Start with Cheese and Meat: Place the cheeses and meats first, then fill in with fruits, veggies, and crackers.
  • Use Small Bowls: To keep the board tidy, keep dips and small snacks like olives in ramekins or tiny bowls.
  • Add Some Color: Bright fruits and veggies make it look more inviting and less like a pile of snacks.
