Host an Epic Mexican Bash for 30 People Without Spending a Fortune
Find out the secrets to hosting a delicious taco bar for 30 guests for under $75. The best part is there is no last-minute cooking. It will all be done the day before. Even the hostess can have a fun time.
It is economical, low-stress, and really very easy! The cost includes two different types of tacos, all of the sides and fixings.
Ground Beef Taco Meat

The day before the party, make the taco sauce. It can be made on the stovetop, instant pot, or slow cooker. It’s a super simple recipe. The meat is browned, then canned tomatoes and spices are added and simmered to perfection. Once the sauce thickens like a thick chili, it is done and can be cooled and refrigerated overnight. The day of the party, just warm it up. The total cost of this is $11.00 or $0.36 per serving. Get the Recipe: Ground Beef Tacos.
Pulled Pork Tacos

Using a pork shoulder or butt makes this meal incredibly cost-effective. It can simply be placed in a slow cooker with onion, garlic, jalapeño, and spices without browning first. It can also be smoked, roasted, or browned first, but this step is optional. If browning or roasting first, cook it until the meat has an internal temperature of 160°F. Then, let it cool and refrigerate overnight. Pop it in the slow cooker the next day with orange, jalapeño, onion, and spices, and cook it for 5-6 hours on low until the meat measures at least 200°F and pulls easily. Do this the day of the party or the day before. The total of this is $17.55 or $0.59 per serving. Get the Recipe: Pulled Pork Tacos.
Side Dishes: Refried Beans

Add dried black or pinto beans, a poblano pepper, onion, garlic, and spices to the instant pot with broth or water. There is no need to soak the beans. Pressure cook for 30 minutes. Mash beans and serve. This can be done on the day of the party or the day before the party. The cost of these beans is $2.00 Get the Recipe: Refried Beans.
Restaurant-style Mexican Rice

Just add the rice to a saucepan with chopped garlic, bell peppers, and spices. Add water according to the rice’s directions. Bring the water to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer on low for 20-30, depending on the rice. The cost of this rice is about $5.00. Get the Recipe: Restaurant-style Mexican Rice.
Guacamole

Peel and mash the avocado. Add finely diced red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, and spices. Make this at the last minute so that the avocados don’t oxidize and turn brown. Guacamole will cost about $5.60. Get the Recipe: Simple Guacamole.
Spicy Coleslaw

This spicy coleslaw couldn’t be easier, and it is great with the pulled pork tacos. It also compliments seafood tacos. To make it even easier, buy a package of pre-grated coleslaw mix from the grocery store. Then, the salad comes together in less than 10 minutes. This can be made a day in advance of your celebration if you would like. The Slaw costs $2.25. Get the Recipe: Spicy Coleslaw.
The Taco Toppings

Tacos just wouldn’t be the same without all of those delicious toppings. Here are some of our favorites. Grated cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced scallions, minced or sliced jalapeños, sliced radishes, salsa, sour cream. These will cost you $22.40. And of course, you need a good quality corn tortilla. These will cost about $10. All of the prices come from the Wegman’s app in July 2024.
The Finished Product: Taco Bar

Put it all together, and you have a delicious spread for 30 guests with a minimal amount of work and something that everyone will love. Let your guests mix and match their favorite combinations. Be the talk of the town with this delicious taco bar that only costs about $2.50 per person! Get the Recipe: Taco Bar.
